Negative Emotions – Gut Issues

Negative Emotions - Gut Issues

  • Emotions can directly alter gut function.
  • The gut and brain talk to each other – through millions of nerve signals and paths, the release of gut or stress hormones.
  • The gut gets sick first and this leads to brain dysfunction, not the other way round.
  • Easier to manipulate the gut than the brain. Treating the gut
(digestive disorders) can assist with depression, schizophrenia, anxiety
    and chronic neuro problems.
  • Symptoms – bloating, flatulence, constipation, diarrhoea, low/high stomach acid, food intolerances, H pylori and general IBS.
  • Higher anxiety correlates with higher inflammatory cytokine levels, a by product of inflammation, part of the immune response.
  • When the balance is lost due to bad eating, sugars, stress and
antibiotics, the bad bugs take over and this results in “dysbiosis”.
    • Trillions of good and bad bugs (bacteria) talk to the nervous system via pathways, including the immune system.
    • Gut bacteria manufacturers approximately 80% of the body’s serotonin as well as 50% of the dopamine and norepinephrine.
    • Sleep.
