The Home of Your Immune System - The Gut

Disease starts and ends in the gut!

80% of your immune system is located in your gut. To stave off disease (Diabetes, Parkinsons, Alzheimers, Cancer, Arthritis), you need a healthy diet filled with as many coloured, green vegetables, good fats and protein. If you are eating lots of brown, yellow and white foods, eating from tins, boxes and packets then you are not eating well!

    • There are hundreds of species of bacteria and more than 100 trillion live in our gut.
    • Bacteria, fungi and viruses make up the gut microbiome in our body.
    • In a person with a healthy gut microbiome balance, the good bugs keep the bad bugs under control.
    • Good and bad bugs can live in harmony and support each other and work together.
    • Healthy bacteria help manufacture Vitamin B’s and K, producing SCFA (Short Chain Fatty Acids).
    • SCFA are produced by the gut microbia to breakdown insoluble fibre and resistant starches.
    • SCFA acts as an anti-inflammatory and assist in slowing overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut.
    • When the balance is lost due to bad eating, sugars, stress and antibiotics, the bad bugs take over and this results in “dysbiosis”.
    • Dysbiosis symptoms are bloating, cramping, indigestion, constipations, diarrhea but mood is also affected.
    • Depression, anxiety and mood swings are very common when there is dysbiosis in the gut.
    • “Leaky Gut Syndrome” is a term used very often with regard to the gut.
