Stop Fasting and Start Eating
Do I have breakfast or do I fast?
You wake up early to a busy day of kids, work, and traffic. The first thing you want to do is fuel your body so that your cortisol levels and blood sugar remain stable. Many people claim to be fasting in the morning but use coffee or tea to keep them going. When they break their fast, it is usually with a big meal or a bowl of sugary fruit. Some people are sitting in meetings and cannot eat. They go for longer periods without food. They cannot focus, and become irritable, moody, and angry.
If you want to fast, stop eating at 4pm or 5pm. Don’t eat until breakfast first thing in the morning. Your body will be resting and not be encumbered with a full stomach at bedtime. This turns to fat and creates inflammation.
BENEFITS OF EATING A SMALL PROTEIN-RICH BREAKFAST
- It balances blood sugar levels by replenishing your supply of glucose. This boosts your energy levels and makes you more alert.
- It kick starts your metabolism.
- You will be more focused. If you have a long day ahead, you’re fueled to handle all the stresses of life.
- You CAN lose weight (if that is your aim)
- Afternoon energy slumps can be avoided.
Fasting cannot be sustained for months and years. Eating a good protein breakfast can. You will lose weight and not put your body through stress, blood sugar dips, and inflammation. Breakfast and your 2:30pm – 4pm portions are the most important. Catch the dips before the dips happen.
