Skin Health

Nutrition and gut health is the basic foundation!

If your skin is aging faster than your years, you have acne, rosacea, psoriasis, boils, pimples, pigmentation or other skin condition, look at your gut.

We often hear about the Gut-Brain Axis but few people know that there is a Gut-Skin Axis.

Gut health, brain health and skin health are all interrelated.

If the gut is not happy, neither is the brain. Symptoms like depression (even familial), anxiety, ADD and OCD are often seen in people with gut issues.

The skin is a great barometer for what goes on inside our guts.

The gut holds up to 80% of your immune system. It is where we metabolise hormones, absorb nutrients, detoxify enzymes, neutralise pathogens and make neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin.

The gut is a complex colony that contains trillions of strains of bacteria and microbes, called the microbiome. If there is an imbalance is this colony, the skin is one of the first places you will see issues.

Where there is gut inflammation, there will be skin inflammation and aging. It can often be a gradual change or for some people it is overnight! You need to dampen inflammation in the gut. 99% of all people I see are totally inflamed! The skin is our body’s largest organ. It is one of the major systems that expels toxins and waste, harmful bacteria and pathogens. Leaky gut, leaky skin!

Things to do:

  • Check for food allergies and intolerances (see my testing).
  • Look at doing a specialised stool test to check your inflammation, bacteria’s, yeasts, absorption, leaky gut and flora (speak to me).
  • Stop eating the processed stodge.
  • Read your food labels. Know what you eating! If it comes out of a box, packet or tin and tastes amazing, you know that it’s filled with colourants, preservatives and flavourants (see my article about Bliss point).
  • Make sure you have good stomach acid/HCL. Many people suffering from skin conditions have very little stomach acid. Watch out for Nexium and Gaviscon, they block stomach acid. Many people who think they have too much stomach acid and are experiencing reflux or heartburn have the opposite. You have gut issues. Look into fixing those and you will see a big change. See article about H pylori.
  • Make sure you absorbing your food and vitamins. Do proper testing.
  • Eat as many antioxidants in the form of leafy greens and coloured vegetables.
  • The highest form of vitamin A which is needed for your skin health is found in leafy green vegetables. Look at my articles and smoothies to get as much in as possible.
  • Look at your sleep hygiene. Sleep is one of the greatest of health.
  • Stabilise your blood sugar levels and that will help with your stress (speak to me).
  • Stop smoking and reduce alcohol or stop all together.
  • Hydrate! Hydrate!
  • Test your vitamin D levels

The amount of money people are spending on skincare and anti-aging protocols is shocking. People want the quick fix and are not prepared to do the hard work and fix their nutrition and guts. Start there!

Not only will you be helping your skin, you will have longevity, energy and less anxiety and mood disorders!
